Experiments
Do these experiments with your family and friends to compare where you live with Alaska and Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Below is a list of experiments you can do at home. Talk to an adult before you begin any of these experiments, they will be able to help you get the tools you need for the experiment. Look at the brief experiment descriptions below and click on the link to get the experiment instructions and a list of materials needed.

1. Tilt of the Earth

This activity will help you demonstrate how the earth moves around the sun.

2. Absences of Heat

Alaska is colder than most places in the United States. The summers are short and the winters are long. Use this activity to learn how the rotation of the earth around the sun makes our seasons.

3. Forest Succession and Animal Adaptations

This experiment lets you be creative with the environment. You can do this one twice, first do the experiment to represent your area and the plants and animals that live there. Then you can make up a world of your own and draw in the forest succession and animals that would live in your "new" world.

4. Habitats

This is an online interactive experiment. You can place the Alaskan wildlife in the proper habitat. Remember that animals need food, shelter, water, and space.

5. Ecosystems

You will compare the living and the non-living things in your environment. You will figure out how they interact with each other in their ecosystem.

6. Tree Seed Game

Just like animals plants need food, shelter, water and space to make their habitat complete. This game is a fun way to figure out how trees use the living and non-living things in their habitat to survive.
