Ball & Stick GameAbout the size of a large grapefruit, the ball was constructed of 3 pieces of tanned leather sewn together with sinew and stuffed with grass or fur. The stick was usually carved willow, curved at one end. This ancient ball and stick game, often called "shinny", was common throughout North America. Played by women and girls, 2 mixed teams would be organized. The objective was to hit the ball past the other team’s goal post. Is this game still played today? |
