Klondike Gold Rush - Seattle Unit National Historical Park
Traveling Trunks

Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park has two educational trunks that are available for local check-out. Trunks are a great way to bring props, books, and other materials that are otherwise hard to find to your classroom. There are ideas for stand-alone activities as well as materials that can supplement your own classroom curriculum ideas. These trunks have ideas to prepare your students for an on-site visit. They may also be used as a stand-alone activity. They include lesson plans that fit Washington State EARLs standards for science, math, language arts, music, art, health and wellness, and social studies. Trunks are a fantastic resource for students from pre-K to 7th grade.

The traveling trunks are free of charge and can be borrowed for two weeks at a time. Trunks must be reserved in advance at least two days prior to pick-up. They can be picked up and dropped off at the park's visitor center front desk seven days a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Sorry, it is not possible to mail the trunks.) To arrange to borrow a trunk contact Tim Karle at 206 220 4240.

With the Gold Rush trunk students can learn about those who participated in this great adventure. This trunk is packed with books, photographs, and a VHS copy of the 27 minute movie Days of Adventure Dreams of Gold. Your students can even test their skill in panning for gold! ( gold pan and realistic gold nuggets included).
