Alaska Geographic is offering teens from Southeast Alaska and the Yukon a trip of a lifetime to hike from the Lynn Canal to the headwaters of the Yukon the river. The trip departs on the Chilkoot Trail from August 3rd and returns August 8th. This FREE teen trip is 5 nights and 6 days and includes food, train tickets, gear rental, and environmental education programming. The trip is offered and organized by the Skagway Recreation Center and special programs are presented by National Park Service Park Rangers that will accompany the trip. Teens will also be invited to join the National Park Service Trail Crew to improve portions of the Chilkoot Trail Additionally; there is an extra pre-hike overnight trip. This hike and float trip on the lower section of the Chilkoot Trail is the weekend of July 21-22 and gives the teens a taste of the Chilkoot and a chance to prepare for their upcoming journey. Alaska Geographic, Klondike Gold Rush NHP and the Skagway Recreation Center all hope that getting teens out in their National Parks will serve to engage them in stewardship and leadership in Alaska. Please see itinerary below. To register or for more information please contact Jennifer at the Skagway Recreation at 907-983-9243.
