On Saturday, April 8, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club is hosting its 2nd Saturday of the month workday. This month they will work on a section of the trail between the Illinois Monument and Cheatham Hill Road that is badly worn and eroded by storm damage.

The Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club is the all-volunteer organization committed to maintaining and developing the 18 miles of trails at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. All volunteers from the community are welcome to participate There are no age limits or membership requirements other than a willingness to work. However, youth under the age of 18 do require parental permission, and groups of youth (i.e. churches and scouts) must have adequate adult leadership. No previous trail building experience is necessary. The club has certified trail crew leaders who will provide direction and teach the necessary skills to all participants.

The club meets at the park maintenance area behind the Visitor Center up the hill to the right past the superintendent’s office; parking is available. Volunteers need to dress appropriately for the weather and bring their drinking water. The Park Service provides all necessary tools and safety equipment.

For more information on this or any other park program, please phone 770-427-4686, extension “0” between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
