On Monday, March 19, 2007, at 7:00 p.m., KennesawMountainNationalBattlefieldPark is presenting a program entitled, “John Bell Hood and the Battles for Atlanta.” The program is given by Dr. J. D. Fowler. The lecture will be held at the park VisitorCenter and is free and open to the public.
Dr. Fowler is from Kentucky and received his B.A. and M.A. in history from EasterKentuckyUniversity. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Tennessee. He is currently an assistant professor of history at KennesawStateUniversity where he teaches courses on the Civil War and reconstruction, Southern history, nineteenth century U.S. history and U.S. military history. Dr. Fowler is also the author of several books and articles. His lecture will discuss recent scholarship that is more favorable of Hood’s attempts in the Atlanta Campaign. Many argue that later generations view his efforts to hold Atlanta as having been overshadowed by his disastrous Tennessee Campaign.
