Kenai Fjords National Park
Schematic Re-design Submittal July 2008

The schematic design phase (or 35% design) is the initial design phase where floor plans, sections, elevations and building systems are created. It looks at what the massing and the footprint of the building will be in order to house all of the building functions (i.e. visitor service areas, administrative offices, storage, circulation, restrooms etc.).

This schematic design describes 2 alternatives. A final determination of whether the Center will be one or two buildings will be made after the project is brought before the NPS Development Advisory Board.

Orca whales

Did You Know?
There are 3 distinct types of Orca whale that roam the waters around Kenai Fjords National Park: residents that eat fish, transients that eat marine mammals, and less frequently viewed offshore orcas that stay in open water eating fish - including sharks.
