The Competition

Matthew giving a cart talk about predators and prey

Matthew Moore here. As many of my co-workers know, Jacob Marshall and I are having a little competition. The goal is to see how many people we can get to come visit our cart talks. So far (sadly) Jacob been beating me most days, but I have the record! Oh yeah! And to get it I had to beat Jacob's old record of 114 in an hour and I got 118! It's been pretty fun talking to all these people. They have so many stories to tell about Alaska and about where they're from. It seems that a lot of people look up to Alaska (both figuratively and literally) as a place to experience wonder and amazement, and to see things that they probably will never see again.

That's all for now,
-Matthew Moore

River Otter

River otters defecate in certain spots to mark their territory. Researchers in Kenai Fjords National Park have discovered that these "latrine sites" enrich the soil, allowing plants to grow in those spots that aren't found anywhere else close by.
