Come before it gets too hot in the day for the pink opal.

park photo

The pink opal is a winter hardy waterlily that starts blooming in May each morning

Artists appreciate that the park opens at 7:00 a.m. daily, and sometimes earlier in summer. The night blooming waterlilies that start blooming in late July are fully open until 9 most mornings. This includes the spectacular Victoria with its dinner plate sized leaves that begins blooming in August. Special hours are sometimes scheduled depending on staffing.

Morning is when shy birds, frogs, and turtles are still in the area.

By afternoon on most summer days the flowers will have closed, the wildlife taken sanctuary in the marsh, and all is resting.
