Fens

In fens ground water and precipitation are the water sources. The pH is over 4.8 but, depending on underlying minerals, can be neutral or quite alkaline. Peat from grasses, sedges and wildflowers may fill in a fen over time. Fens have more plant diversity than bogs. Willow and birch may grow near the edge. |
