Visitors are treated to breathtaking views of Naknek Lake and Brooks Camp on the Dumpling Mountain Trail.

NPS Photo

Hikes to Dumpling Mountain are offered on an intermittent basis as staffing allows. Lead by a ranger/naturalist, this moderately strenuous hike climbs 800 ft. over 1.5 miles (one way), emerging from the boreal forest into alpine tundra and onto an overlook of Brooks Camp with expansive views of Naknek Lake. For the more adventurous hiker, the trail continues (unaccompanied by a ranger) 2.5 miles and gains an additional 1,600 ft. to the summit of Dumpling Mountain.

Raingear, water, and sturdy hiking boots or shoes are recommended.

Visitors on their first floatplane ride.

Most visitors arrive at Brooks Camp via floatplane from King Salmon. This is usually the first time in a small aircraft for many visitors, too.
