In the face of a huge building stabilization need and very limited funds the 1984 Resource Management Plan prioritized the top 200 buildings in a triage attempt to save those considered most important.  Two decades later, this remains the park priority for historic building preservation.   View the rationale for the 1984 Maintenance priorities.

Kauhako Crater  

Did You Know?
About 230,000 years ago a small shield volcano named Pu'u 'Uao formed the flat Kalaupapa peninsula. The rim of the volcano remnant rises 450 feet forming Kauhako Crater with a crater lake at the bottom more than 800 feet deep.
