The visitor center is open daily, year round. Current, Summer hours are from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Winter hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Battlefield Visitor Center is closed on Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day and Presidents Day. The battlefield and its trails are open year round. Access to the trails in winter is by snowshoe or cross country ski only. The trails are open sunrise to sunset year round except during Elk Hunting Season when the trails close at 4:45 pm for Visitor Safety.

Did you know, the coconut tree was an extremely important resource brought to Hawaii by the early Polynesians. It was a source of food and water, used for building homes and rope making, and was also a musical instrument. Cutting down the coconut grove of another was considered an act of war.
