Joshua Tree National Park, Twentynine Palms, CA

On Monday, January 19th 2015, Joshua Tree National Park will join the other 400 plus units of the National Park Service in commemorating Dr. King and his contribution to civil rights in the U.S., by waiving entrance fees to the park.

Visitors to Joshua Tree National Park are reminded that the weather in January can be unpredictable and temperatures may fluctuate. When hiking or walking, always carry plenty of water (1 gallon per person per day), use sunscreen, wear a hat, and layer clothing to accommodate the changes in weather.

Campers and picnickers are reminded to bring water as most park campgrounds and picnic areas do not have water available. Potable water is available at park visitor centers and at Black Rock and Cottonwood Campgrounds as well as the Indian Cove Ranger Station.

This year, National Park Service entrance fees will also be waived on:
- February 14-16, 2015: President's Day Weekend
- April 18-19, 2015: National Park Week's opening weekend
- August 25, 2015: National Park Service's 99th Birthday
- September 26, 2015: National Public Lands Day
- November 11, 2015: Veterans Day

Fees for activities such as camping, reservations, tours, or concessions will still be collected as normal.

"National parks offer visitors great places to exercise their bodies and their minds- or just relax with family or friends." ~National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis.
