Fire Extinguished In Lost Horse Area Sunday

A small wildfire was reported by park visitors at 3:30 pm on Sunday, February 26. The fire was located about one mile southwest of Park Boulevard, in the general vicinity of the Lost Horse Ranger Station. When park rangers arrived on scene at approximately 3:50 pm, they found several visitors attempting to extinguish the blaze.

Fire crews from Joshua Tree National Park, San Bernardino County, Twentynine Palms, and San Bernardino National Forest responded to the fire, which was burning in dry grass and desert shrubbery. Approximately one-quarter-acre was burned before it was declared contained by Incident Commander Aaron Kendall at 7:30 pm. All firefighting resources were clear of the area by 8:20 Sunday evening.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation. Weather at the time was clear with light winds.
