Twentynine Palms, CA – The trails at Cottonwood Spring area are open after a temporary closure. This includes Cottonwood Spring, Lost Palms Oasis, and the Mastodon Mine Loop in the southern part of the park. The park is maintaining a limited closure of off-trail areas at Cottonwood Spring to allow for additional work.

"Thanks to our dedicated trail crew, archeologists and safety officer we can now re-open these popular trails in time for our busy season," said Superintendent David Smith. "We never like to limit public access to the park, especially at a popular destination like Cottonwood and Lost Palms. We feel that the repair work to the trail means that we can guarantee safe access to the public and our staff."

In this busy time of year, campgrounds are often full, so plan ahead. Cooler fall temperatures make long distance hikes more reasonable. Bring adequate food, water, and sunscreen, as well as layered clothing. Ensure someone knows where you are planning to hike.

Cottonwood Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 am –4:00 pm daily. Stop in and plan your day. Rangers will have additional information about hiking in the area.

Enjoy your national parks and public lands safely.
