Open House to Discuss Black Rock Flood Study

The National Park Service will hold an open house meeting on November 3, 2010 in the Multipurpose Room at the Black Rock Interagency Fire Center. At the open house, National Park Service representatives will discuss the results of the conceptual drainage analysis that was conducted in 2006 for the Black Rock Canyon developed area and the current plans for a flood study that will examine how potential changes in drainage and flood run-off will affect the campground and the adjacent community.
The implications of the studies on future development plans for Black Rock Campground within Joshua Tree National Park will also be discussed. The meeting will last from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. All members of the public are invited.

The open house will be conducted by National Park Service staff from the agency’s Denver Service Center and representatives from Joshua Tree National Park. Following a brief presentation, questions will be taken and public input sought on how the drainage and flood studies will affect options for future development at Black Rock Campground.

The address for the meeting location is 9800 Black Rock Canyon Road, Yucca Valley, California. The Black Rock Interagency Fire Center is located 5 miles south of Highway 62 in Yucca Valley via Joshua Lane.
