The Perseid meteor shower will provide awe-inspiring views of our desert night skies to many park visitors this weekend, August 9-11, 2013. Joshua Tree National Park staff will partner with the Mojave Desert Land Trust to participate in events at the Integratron in Landers, California. While this event is by pre-purchase ticket sale, Joshua Tree will also be supporting in-park enjoyment of this natural wonder by allowing day-use areas at Quail Springs and Hidden Valley to remain open to stargazing beyond the normal sunset closure on August 9 and 10. Camping is not allowed at these day-use areas.

Campgrounds open in the park include: Black Rock, Cottonwood, Hidden Valley, Indian Cove, and Jumbo Rocks.

On Monday August 12, Joshua Tree staff in cooperation with Sky's the Limit volunteers will present night sky activities at the Sky's the Limit Observatory, including a ranger-led presentation and telescope viewing beginning at 8 pm. These activities are free to the public. The Sky's the Limit Observatory is located just before the North Entrance to the park.
