Park Will Host National Parks America Tour

Joshua Tree National Park will host the sixth annual National Parks America Tour on Saturday, April 12. The event, which is sponsored by Unilever, Wal-Mart Stores, and the National Park Foundation, will engage local Boys & Girls Club kids, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and local high school students, as well as Wal-Mart Associates and their families, in volunteer projects to enhance the park landscape.

Volunteers will meet at Joshua Tree Elementary School, which is located at 6051 Sunburst Avenue in Joshua Tree, at 8:30 a.m. They will receive a t-shirt and breakfast before heading into the park where they will work at trail maintenance and litter patrol until lunch time.

After returning to Joshua Tree Elementary, the National Parks America Tour will salute America’s Best—its volunteers—at The Great American Picnic hosted by Ben & Jerry’s®, all®, small and mighty™, Hellmann’s®, Best Foods®, Lipton®, Snuggle®, and Suave®.

This event is projected to contribute more than 275,000 volunteer manpower hours to the National Park Service, resulting in an in-kind donation valued at $4.75 million.
