Orientation Learn about the programs and services the education office has to offer. Available for inservice days.
Workshops Project WILD, Project Learning Tree, Project WET, and Project Archaeology are offered each school year. May be available at school sites for staff development days.
Continuing Education The Desert Institute, the educational branch of the Josha Tree National Park Association offers outdoor classes in science, history, and the arts. Classes vary in length from one to three days and are taught on weekends. Some offer optional college credit through UC Riverside. Course fees vary from $45 to $150.
Guides Mojave Desert Discovery is a resource guide about the Mojave Desert ecosystem for teachers of upper elementary students. Available for $15 from Joshua Tree National Park Association, 760-367-5525.
Mojave Desert Issues is a secondary school curriculum available from Joshua Tree National Park Association, 760-367-5525 for $15. The publication helps develop critical thinking skills by looking at issues facing national parks.
The Living Desert is a bilingual coloring activity book available to teachers in local schools. It was produced in cooperation with The Living Desert.
Study Kits Desert tortoise study kits are available on loan. The kits include animal specimens, activities, videos, and books on the desert tortoise and its environment.
Videos The education office has a small selection of video tapes available on loan.
Internet Some of our web jr rangers will respond to questions from kids during the school year. Their email is jotr_jrrangers@nps.gov.
Keys Ranch: Where Time Stood Still provides on-line educational materials and a virtual tour of some of Joshua Tree’s cultural resources.
On Shaky Ground explains what happened during the 7.1-magnitude Hector Mine earthquake, which occured on October 16, 1999.
