The Great Johnstown Flood Teacher's Activity Guide
The National Park Service and the Johnstown Area Heritage Association are pleased to announce a curriculum based education partnership that helps students understand the Johnstown Flood of 1889. This new program, developed using the Pennsylvania state education curriculum for grades three to six, includes pre- and post-visit activities, on-site field trips and an in-school program presented by Johnstown Flood National Memorial and Johnstown Area Heritage Association education staff. The program emphasizes experiential learning and encourages students and teachers to explore real historic sites. It also takes advantage of the unique ability each site has to tell different elements of the story of the Johnstown Flood of 1889.
There are also "Teaching With Historic Places: Run For Your Lives! The Johnstown Flood of 1889 and Carnegie Libraries: The Future Made Bright" materials available! The Education Specialist can visit your classroom and help you plan your field trip. Please call Greg Zaboroswki at (814) 886-6140 to discover all Your National Parks have to offer.
