Visitors and Park Rangers celebrated John. F. Kennedy's 95th birthday with a variety of events. John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site kicked off the summer season by learning what John F. Kennedy means to the third graders at Edward Devotion School in Brookline, Massachusetts. Following a month of intensive study, which included trips to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, the John F. Kennedy National Historic Site and an exploration of JFK's boyhood neighborhood, each student wrote an essay answering the question, "What Does JFK Mean to Me?" In addition, each class wrote a poem reflecting on JFK. On May 24, the third graders, teachers, local leaders and parents gathered on in front of John F. Kennedy National Historic Site or a ceremony honoring the students' hard work and academic achievements. Following a reading of the class poems, the winning essays, as chosen by their peers, were announced. To read the winning essays or class poems, click here. The ceremony concluded with the students singing Bob Dylan's song, "Forever Young." The celebration of John F. Kennedy's 95th birthday continued May 25 and 26 as park rangers welcomed visitors to the home. A pianist filled the living room with music, bringing to life the sounds that might have been heard in the home during the Kennedy's residence when Mrs. Kennedy herself sat at the piano. Following self-guided tours of the home, visitors were invited to join rangers in the backyard for a photographic display chronicling JFK's life and had the opportunity to leave birthday wishes. The True North Lecture series presented "The Kennedy Brothers Speak," a discussion of important speeches made by John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Edward Kennedy. Following the event, at the Coolidge Corner Theater, many attendees joined rangers for a tour of John F. Kennedy's birthplace. Missed the celebrations? Don't worry!
