Join us for a ranger led tour into the fossil beds.
 

Summer 2008

Blue Basin Hike … On June 28, July 5 &19, August 2 & 9, and September 6, at 10:00 am, join a ranger for a two-hour, one-mile walk into the colorful Blue Basin.  Hikes begin at the Blue Basin trailhead in the Sheep Rock Unit.  The hike features the geology and fossils of the basin.

Sheep Rock Unit Auto Tour … On July 26, August 16, and September 13, at 10:00 am, join a ranger for a two-hour road trip into the fossil beds to discuss the geologic landscape.  Your vehicle should have good tires for the gravel roads.  Tours begin at the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center, located in the Sheep Rock Unit.  

James Cant Ranch Walk … On June 21, July 12, August 23, and September 20, at 2:00 pm, join a ranger for a one hour program at the historic James Cant Ranch, located in the Sheep Rock Unit.  The walk and talk will feature the ranch history and begins on the ranch house front porch.

Clyde Holliday State Park Programs … On Friday evenings (June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15, and September 5, 12, 19, and 26), one of our park rangers will present a talk at the amphitheater.  The talks begin at 6:30 pm and last about 45 minutes.  They will feature a variety of subjects.  Clyde Holliday State Park is located one mile east of the town of Mt. Vernon on Route 26, a 40 minute drive east of the Thomas Condon Visitor Center.

Scheduled Sheep Rock Talks … When one of the above programs is not scheduled to conflict, a ranger will present a 20-40 minute talk at the Thomas Condon Visitor Center on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning in June and through September.  These talks will begin at 2:00 pm at the visitor center.
