The Southeast Region of the National Park Service has named Gary Ingram as the new superintendent for Jimmy Carter National Historic Site in Plains, GA. Deputy Regional Director Art Frederick said Ingram started in his new position on August 5.
Ingram comes to his new position from his role as desk officer in Washington, D.C., for the Park Service's Alaska Region. In that role he represented Alaska's national parks and regional office in day-to-day dealings with the leadership of the Department of the Interior, the National Park Service, Congressional staff and Washington, D.C.-based interest groups. Earlier this year Ingram spent two months on a temporary assignment as Acting Superintendent of Carl Sandburg National Historic Site in Flat Rock, NC.
"We are really pleased that Gary is joining us in the Southeast Region to take charge of Jimmy Carter National Historic Site", Frederick said. "He brings excellent experience from the field in civic engagement and community outreach to his new job. That's an important mix as he leads and represents one of this region's high profile parks."
Prior to his post in the district, Ingram spent two years as an assistant to the superintendent of Yosemite National Park, with responsibility for Congressional and community affairs. In 2001 and 2002, Ingram served as a policy advisor for Indiana Congressman Mark Souder, with an emphasis on resource and law enforcement issues.
Between 1993 and 2001, Ingram worked as a national park ranger in Yosemite in a variety of positions, including protection ranger, horse patrol, search and rescue, emergency medical services, and Chief Liaison Officer.

Ingram, 38, and his wife, Athena, have three children, Gary, McKenna and Connor, and will live in the Plains area.
