Local artist Robert Ruiz shares his vision of life in south Louisiana through a special exhibit of paintings. Ruiz was born and raised in nearby St. John Parish and although he was interested in art at an early age, retirement from his "regular" job has allowed him to devote more time to his passion for painting. Take a special look at the paintings' frames, too---they're made from "sinker" cypress, cypress logs that wound up in a bayou or river after being lost in transit between their harvest sites and the intended sawmill. Free.

The Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center is located at 314 Saint Mary St. in Thibodaux and is open Monday-Tuesday 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Wednesday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
