Join park rangers and living history reenactors for Battle of New Orleans University, new programs designed to share War of 1812 history and period skills important to troops and civilians alike. Attend as many or as few as you like. More sessions will be added throughout summer and fall 2014 and will be posted here as available. - "New Orleans: 1815" - Saturday, July 19, 10:00-11:00 a.m.. Chalmette Battlefield Visitor Center - Local historian and living history reenactor Tim Strain will explore everyday life in the city 200 years ago: a country at war, no modern necessitieis like air conditioning and running water, and a lively mix of cultures. Free. Extra credit: Stay after class and learn an 1815-era artillery drill or talk to the ladies of the Battle of New Orleans University sewing circle and find out how politics influenced fashions in 1814.
