In 1815, the American victory at the Battle of New Orleans brought the country together and gave the United States new prominence on the world stage. Hear the story of the battle on the very ground where American troops defeated the mighty British army.

Talk takes place about 2:45 p.m. each day when Creole Queen excursion boat arrives at battlefield. Note that talk time may change beginning in mid-April, so if you are planning a visit in late April or May, please check back here or at the Chalmette Battlefield page.

No talk (the battlefield is closed) on Mardi Gras and federal holidays, except for Memorial Day and Veterans Day when the battlefield is open. Gates to the battlefield and to the national cemetery are open 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on days when the battlefield is closed, except for Mardi Gras, when gates are also closed.

Chalmette Battlefield is located at 8606 West St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.
