Curriculum-Based Programs at Barataria Preserve
Nature, science, plants, animals, and wetlands ecology are all on the lesson plan at the Barataria Preserve.
Bring your class to the Barataria Preserve and have fun in nature while meeting state GLEs! All programs include pre-visit and post-visit materials and a 90-minute ranger-led program. Curriculum-based programs are offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 10:00-11:30 or 12:00-1:30. Reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

- It's Only Natural (kindergarten - 3rd grade) explains the importance of living and non-living parts of the environment. Actitivites teach students about food chains and food webs, connections between organisms and their environments, and the place we have in our own environment. - Everybody Needs A Home (4th - 5th grades) shares the needs of native wildlife and the importance of habitat conservation. Activities teach students the needs of all living things: food, water, shelter, and space. Click on the link for program details, including the Louisiana GLEs covered.
- Vanishing Wetlands (6th - 8th grades ) introduces students to the importance of Louisiana wetlands, the impact humans have on wetlands, and our responsibility to preserve them. Activities teach students about native and non-native species, wetlands loss, and actions they can take to create a better future for wetlands.
