To reach our Visitor Center by car:
Travel on I-10, heading towards New Orleans. Exit at Orleans Avenue #235A and turn south towards the Vieux Carre (French Quarter). Orleans Avenue turns into Basin Street. Continue on Basin Street and turn left on Conti Street. Turn left on North Peters (last road before the river). Visitor Center is on riverside of street, past Cafe DuMonde, underneath Galvez Restaurant.

Original Dixieland Jazz Band (1916)

The Original Dixieland Jazz Band is credited with making the first jazz recording in 1917. Cornetist Freddie Keppard was offered the chance to record first, but refused for fear that other musicians would steal his ideas.
