James A Garfield as an Ohio Senator

In honor of Ohio's 210th birthday, James A. Garfield National Historic Site will be taking a brief look at the service of our 20th president as a state legislator in the Buckeye state.

Join Volunteer Andrew Mizsak as he discusses the beginning of James Garfield's political career from 1859-61, as he served the people of Portage County in the Ohio State Senate in Columbus.

Saturday, March 2 @2pm in the Visitor Center auditorium. This program is free of charge.

Queen Victoria of England sent a wreath for the state funeral of Garfield. Afterwards, Mrs. James A. Garfield had the white rose wreath dipped in wax and framed. It is over 130 years old and can be viewed in the Memorial Vault.
