The following is updated to 2006 information. A User Fee is charged for each day in Isle Royale National Park.
When you ride the Ranger III, you are on the largest piece of moving equipment owned and operated by the National Park System and the largest passenger ferry providing service to Isle Royale National Park. The ride to Isle Royale National Park takes 6 hours one-way. The Ranger III is 165 feet long and can carry 128 passengers. The Ranger III operates out of Houghton, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula.

To make an on-line reservation please include the following in your email: The
date/s of departure; your name, address, and phone number; passenger names,
specifying if they are adults, children (1 through 11 years) or infants (under
1 year); specify if you are backpacking, canoeing/kayaking, boating, or staying
at the lodge; if you are transporting a boat, please provide the length; if
you are transporting a canoe or kayak or outboard motor, please specify. Send

When transporting a private boat, registration must be shown. If registration is not present, the boat will not be transported and there will be no refund. Boats cannot be excessively loaded. Internal and external fuel tanks must be empty, but not completely dry. Boats with excess fuel (exceeding one quarter of the fuel tank's capacity) will not be transported and there will be no refund. Twenty pounds of propane per boat will be allowed. Propane will be limited to one twenty pound container or any multiple of ten or five pound containers. During check-in, cylinders will be tagged and stored in a secure area. Boaters should arrive at dockside by 7:30 a.m. EDT.
