Understanding
This is the complete text of the MOU between the NPS and
NASA.
Memorandum of Understanding

The National Park Service
-and-
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
WHEREAS, the National Park Service, hereinafter known as the "NPS", and NASA's
Goddard Space Flight Center, hereinafter known as "GSFC", share a mutual
interest in the advancement of public literacy in science and mathematics
through technology; and
WHEREAS, both parties share an interest in land, air, and space resources;
and
WHEREAS, the NPS manages natural and cultural resources that hold a great
interest to the American public for their scientific, educational, aesthetic,
cultural, and recreational opportunities; and
WHEREAS, GSFC possesses the technology and interest to provide appropriate
educational materials to educational institutions and the American public.

IT IS FURTHER AGREED to share and make available resources of mutual interest
to the public through educational programs, visitor centers, and media products.
It is also agreed that the NPS and GSFC will explore innovative ways to share
staff and expertise through voluntary services and or interagency personnel
agreements. GSFC agrees to offer access to digital images of Landsat 4 and
5; Thematic Mapper data created by the Goddard Landsat Browse facility and
similar materials; tertiary applications of satellite imagery and digital
elevation models for the creation of 3-D perspective landscapes and animations;
and support in providing descriptions and interpretations of the images.
IT IS FURTHER UNDERSTOOD that this document represents a simple intent to
work together to find common educational goals and solutions and does not
legally bind either party to produce a product or provide funding.
IT IS FURTHER UNDERSTOOD that any reimbursable arrangement between the parties
shall require a separate agreement. This Memorandum of Understanding will
remain valid for five (5) years from the last signature date.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties do hereby execute this Memorandum of
Agreement.
