The Dorothy Buell Memorial Visitor Center has moved to a new location near the intersection of Indiana 49 and Highway 20, on Munson Road. The national lakeshore, Indiana Dunes State Park, and Porter County Convention, Recreation, and Visitor Commission share this visitor center. The new name of the old visitor center building on U.S. Highway 12 and Kemil Road is Calumet Dune Interpretive Center.

Driving Directions:

The center is located on Highway 49 between Highways U.S. 20 and Interstate 94. Watch for signs

From south Highway 49 & Interstate 94

  1. Go north on Highway 49, about 1 mile north of Interstate 94.
  2. Just past the stop light (Oakhill Road) watch for sign and turn right (east) onto access road (Munson Road).
  3. Turn left into parking lot. There are 2 entrances into the parking lot.

From the North

  1. Heading south on Highway 49, as you pass the junction for Highway 20 watch for sign and turn left (east) onto access road (Munson Road).
  2. Turn left into parking lot. There are 2 entrances into the parking lot.

Did You Know?
“Century of Progress” homes at the 1933-1934 Chicago World’s Fair showcased innovative building materials and designs. In 1935, developer Robert Bartlett moved five of these houses to Beverly Shores. These homes are being restored.
