INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Artists from Hammond High School will be opening a new nature-inspired art exhibit at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Douglas Center with a reception on Saturday, May 12, from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Inspired by Miller Woods and other national lakeshore areas, high school students from Hammond High School will be showcasing their talents in paintings and other media during this open house. Guests can share their thoughts and inspirations with the students and other visitors over refreshments. The exhibit will remain at the Douglas Center until mid-June for visitors to see during the center's normal business hours of Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Douglas Center is located at 100 North Lake Street in the Miller section of Gary, Indiana. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, visit the park website at www.nps.gov/indu/planyourvisit or contact our information desk at 219-395-1882.

Cowles Bog is not a true bog but rather a fen because it has an underground water source. This water source has contact with limestone bedrock, making the fen’s water slightly alkaline. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is restoring a portion of this fen.
