INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: The National Park Service is preparing a draft Environmental Assessment for the Wabash Avenue Visitor Use and Traffic Improvement Plan for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and is seeking public input. Each unit of the National Park Service is driven by federal enabling legislation, and the preparation of this plan is required to ensure that the development of the Wabash Avenue Visitor Use Area meets the National Park Service regulations and Federal laws. The public is invited to attend an open house to learn more about the plan and give input.

This proposed project would be for redesigning the area at the Lake Michigan terminus of Wabash Avenue to improve traffic flow, reduce the impact of visitor traffic on residential areas, improve access for emergency vehicles, and provide better visitor services at the beach. This open house will take place at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center on June 28, 2012 from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. and will feature informational displays about the plan. A brief, 15-minute presentation will be given at 6:30 p.m. to explain the plan's purpose and need, objectives, issues, and the planning process. Park staff and contractors will be available to accept comments and input for the development of the plan. The open house format allows the public to arrive at anytime during the event.

The Indiana Dunes Visitor Center is located at 1215 North State Road 49 in Porter, Indiana. For more information about this open house, please contact Bruce Rowe at 219-395-1609.
