INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Join a ranger for a special puppet show in honor of Groundhog Day on February 2nd during the open house at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Paul H. Douglas Center. Shows at 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm will explain where these furry rodents have been and how they survive the long winter.

You can also test your skill on a pair of cross-country skis or snowshoes anytime between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm during these open houses each Saturday. Free equipment and advice are offered so you can enjoy winter on the Miller Woods Trail just outside the Douglas Center. Afterwards, warm up inside the center with hot chocolate while you make a free craft or test out some of the hands-on exhibits.

During the month of February, the Douglas Center is hosting a special exhibit in honor of Black History Month. Learn about the African American history that's commemorated in National Parks located across the country from Florida to California. Kids can complete an indoor scavenger hunt "visiting" these national parks and earn a small prize.

The Douglas Center is located at 100 North Lake Street in the Miller section of Gary. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, contact the Douglas Center at 219-395-1821 or check the park website at www.nps.gov/indu/planyourvisit.
