INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Join research coordinator Joy Marburger at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Douglas Center on Saturday, November 17 at 1:30 pm for a presentation highlighting the behavior of animals and plants in response to shifting climate patterns. Through slides and data, Dr. Marburger will discuss specific local examples of how to measure changes in plant and animal behavior.
After the program, add to the Douglas Center's phenology wheel by exploring outside, taking a picture, and adding it to the exhibit. Phenology is the study of the timing of plant and animal life cycles events and how they are influenced by changes in season or climate.
The Douglas Center Family Open House takes place every Saturday afternoon. Explore the center from 1 pm - 3 pm and check out the interactive exhibits, park video, and even the live animal room. If you want to enjoy the changing seasons, take a hike on the Miller Woods Trail just outside the center. Kids can make a free craft and help feed the center's fish and turtles.
