While on routine patrol in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore near the State Park, a National Park Service Protection Ranger encounter five individuals, several in possession of alcohol. The area is closed to alcohol. The ranger was talking to all five of the individuals when, suddenly, one of them ran off of the park property and into the Porter Beach area. National Park Service Protection Rangers are deputized by Porter County Sheriff’s Office. The ranger chased the fleeing person and was assisted by neighbors who pointed toward an unoccupied home. When the ranger entered the home, the ranger was attacked by the same person he had been chasing. The ranger subdued the individual and arrested him. The individual is now in custody at Porter County Jail.
