PORTER, Indiana: National park rangers were notified by a visitor early this afternoon that a human body had been found on the Lake Michigan shoreline in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore near Central Avenue. Upon investigation, it was determined to be a male. The Central Avenue area of the national lakeshore had been closed due to impacts of recent storms.

Working with local and state law enforcement officials and the Porter County Coroner, the body was recovered and transported to the coroner's office for identification. Once identified, the release of the victim's name will be held until notification of the next of kin.

An autopsy will be performed to officially determine the cause of death. No additional details are available at this time.
