Plan A Field Trip

There are three basic types of field trips to Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Self Guided trips

  • You coordinate the transportation, supervision, educational, and recreational opportunities. 
  • Check out the Self Guided section where we have provided some samples and suggestions. Before you come, let us know so we can alert you to special concerns about the area you will be visiting. ...more
  • West Beach Educational fee waiver instructions  - During the summer months (Friday, Memorial Weekend – Monday, Labor Day), the West Beach area of the park is a Federal Recreation Fee Area. Groups visiting the area for educational purposes during this time may obtain a waiver of the recreation fees if the group meets established criteria.

 
Ranger Guided trips

Did You Know?
Cowles Bog is not a true bog but rather a fen because it has an underground water source. This water source has contact with limestone bedrock, making the fen’s water slightly alkaline. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is restoring a portion of this fen.
