Proclaim Liberty

July 24, 2012 Posted by: Katelynn

What stood out to me today were the words on the Liberty Bell:  "Proclaim Liberty throughout the land for all it's inhabitants" or something like that.  It is a great tool that has been used by many in America as proclamation and proof of their freedoms.  If you hadn't known, women in the Suffrage Movement created a replica of the Liberty Bell and wrapped it in chains.  This Women's Liberty Bell showed that women had not yet received their equality and therefore all their freedoms.  The Liberty Bell is widely recognized but to appreciate it fully everyone must be equal.

I'm the student who wrote this piece, and to answer both Elizabeth an then Dan's questions I should say that I was unaware of the ERA, but I think that we should all be equal because in every person becoming equal then every person is offered the same opportunities.

Wow! Now these are questions that require some thought. I don't know the answers. Does anyone? But I do think that one day, if we all work together, everyone will be able to say that they can hear the Liberty Bell ringing loudly.

Do we want everyone equal or do we want equal opportunity for everyone?

The ERA (Equal Rights Ammendment) has still not passed.Do you know the 5 states that did not ratify the Federal ERA?
