The Lincoln Continentals that Lyndon Johnson drove around the Texas Hill Country were symbols of power and prestige, but were also a "vehicle" to connect him with the land that he loved. LBJ gave tours of his ranch behind the wheel and told his family tale. Roy Butler, the Austin dealer from whom LBJ obtained his Lincolns, remarked that "President Johnson was a real car enthusiast….I made sure that he had the first new model Lincoln convertible in central Texas each year; always white with a tan leather interior…"
