Navajo rug, VanWinkle Butterfly design. All colors may be used. The VanWinkle butterfly design is an hourglass shape, sometimes with short lines radiating out perpendicularly from where the two triangle points meet. Usually without a border.
Navajo Rug, Teec Nos Pos design. Any colors may be used. Laterally symetrical. Often contains the "frog feet" design element. (A triangle at the end of a hooked stripe.) Usually has a very complex design border.
Navajo Rug, Storm Pattern Design Any colors may be used. Laterally symetrical. Includes a center square with 4 zig zag lines (lightning) radiating out from it to the 4 corners ending at another square (the 4 sacred mountains). Usually has a simple border.
Navajo Rug, Gallup Throw weaving. All colors are used. Usually small with a basic design. Woven with a cotton warp that is left hanging out at one end. (The cotton warp fringe on this rug has been tied off very short.)
Navajo Rug, Third Phase Chief Design Colors are usually blue, black, white grey, and red. Often square in shape. Simple striped bands of color with no corner or center designs. Symetrical design from end to end. No border.
Navajo Rug; Double Saddle Blanket All colors are used. Usually measures 30 by 60 inches. Thick wool often hand carded and spun. The blanket may have any designs with or without a border, but often you will find a different design on each half.
