Member of Rocky Mountain Fur Company. In 1825 became the first recorded person to float the Bighorn River through the canyon. After his service in the fur trade he became a scout and guide for the U.S. Army. He guided the Raynolds Expedition to the mouth of the canyon in 1859. Also, helped establish the location of Fort C.F. Smith above the Bighorn River in 1866.
