The four full performance (300-level) competencies represent
a new professional base for park interpreters. The competencies
and their requirements create a true distinction between what
was once expected of field interpreters, and the new sophistication
of the full performance ranger interpreter described in the
Ranger Careers program.
The 300-level curriculum and the assessment standards were
created by field workgroups as all previous materials have
been. Because the "ground" covered in these competencies
is new, to both employees and peer-reviewers, these competencies
will be in a "test phase" to monitor results and
reactions to the peer-review/certification process. If feedback
and experience show that major changes are required, a workgroup
will be formed to make modifications to the intent, content,
and assessment standards. This will keep the competencies
program responsive to the professional needs of the field.
Input and feedback from field interpreters, supervisors, and
certifiers will be used to evolve the standards to be both
useful and realistic to all concerned in achieving this final
leg in the Ranger Careers developmental process.
Anyone who submits a product and is successful will be finished
with his or her requirement for that competency. Anyone
who receives an "approaching certification" result
should be sure to check the website for any changes or updates
that may occur to that competency in order to modify and adapt
their work for subsequent submissions.
