Assessment Rubric for Developmental Level Benchmark Competency:
Module 220: Prepare and Present an Interpretive Demonstration or Other Illustrated Program

Demonstrates certification standards: The interpretive demonstration/illustrated program is...

1) successful as a catalyst in creating opportunities for the audience to form their own intellectual and emotional connections with meanings/significance inherent in the resource;

AND

2) appropriate for the audience, and provides a clear focus for their connection with the resource(s) by demonstrating the cohesive development of a relevant idea or ideas through integration of media, activity or demonstration with interpretive narration, rather than relying primarily on a technical or factual description of what is being viewed or demonstrated.

Descriptors:

  • Integrates medium/activity and narration to encourage or move audience toward higher-level concepts, such as resource protection, stewardship, and global issues
  • Communicates an appropriate depth and amount of relevant information
  • Communicates an understanding of resources/park story/national significance
  • Provides a balance of facts and acknowledges context and multiple points of view
  • Uses park resources appropriately to create context and support content
  • Presents program in an engaging manner appropriate to the audience and the context

  • Insufficiently integrates medium/activity and narration to encourage or move audience toward higher-level concepts, such as resource protection, stewardship, and global issues (either activity/medium or interpretive narrative dominates the program)
  • Communicates an inappropriate depth and amount of relevant information
  • Partially communicates an understanding of resources/park story/national significance
  • Attempts to provide a balance of facts but insufficiently acknowledges context and multiple points of view
  • Insufficiently uses park resources to create context and support content
  • Program presented in a less than engaging manner or one inappropriate to the audience or context
