Harry S Truman National Historic Site, like any historical or natural environment, contains certain inherent hazards that could spoil your visit. The following precautions should be practiced to avoid accidents.

General Safety

Call 911 for any emergency.
Dress appropriately for the weather. Drink plenty of fluids during hot summer weather

Tour Safety

Use caution on porches and steps throughout the house

Slippery Walkways

Walkways in the historic area can be slippery in wet or freezing weather.

Severe Weather

Seek shelter indoors or in a low place when thunderstorms approach. Follow the instructions of park staff during severe weather.

 

Weather for the Independence and Kansas City Area

Located on the western edge of Missouri, the park enjoys each of the four seasons. Early spring brings frequent and rapid fluctuations in weather. The summer season has warm days, periods of high heat and humidity, and mild nights. The fall season is normally mild with sunny days and cool nights. Winters can be cold. The park is open to the public Wednesdays-Sundays. The park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Administrative staff work Monday-Friday. For Administration staff, please call (816) 254-2720, Mondays to Fridays, 8AM-4PM. All times central. (We like to call it Truman Time.)
