Homestead National Monument of America is partnering with the Beatrice Public Library for the 2013 "Year of the Homesteader" Book Discussion Series. Each month the public is invited to read the selected book and then gather to discuss at the library or at our Education Center. Copies of the books are available at the library. To "Prove up" a homestead, the owner was required to make improvements including building a home, breaking the soil, and planting a crop for 5 years.
