See "A Pioneer Family in Alaska" at the Homestead National Monument of America's Education Center on Saturday and Sunday, February 23 & 24, 2013 at 2 p.m.This is the final film in the 2013 "Year of the Homesteader Film Festival"series. This film features original archival footage of the Kilcher family, who's most famous member, Jewel is a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter.It starts with the history of the first pioneers in Homer, Alaska, and teaches about their subsistence lifestyle.

All films in this festival feature stories of homesteading families. There is no cost or tickets needed to attend the "Year of the Homesteader Film Festival," bring the whole family and popcorn to share! "The remarkable number of movies about homesteading shows how this part of our heritage has now become our collective folklore," stated Mark Engler, Superintendent of Homestead National Monument of America.
