Homestead National Monument of America is pleased to announce that the photographic exhibit "Pow Wow Plains" opened on October 10, 2009 at the Education Center. This exhibition, featuring photographs by Nebraska photographer Tom Tidball, is on loan from the Great Plains Art Museum. The subject matter of the exhibition includes stunning images captured at the annual pow wows of the four American Indian tribes in Nebraska. These include the Omaha, Winnebago, Santee Sioux and Ponca tribes.
Modern pow wows are events, with roots in traditional celebrations, where American Indian and non-Indian families and friends gather annually to dance, sing, drum, socialize, hold competitions, and honor American Indian culture. Tom Tidball’s photographs reveal this palpable sense of joy and fellowship.
Tom Tidball, originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, worked for two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during his nearly 30 years as a professional photographer in both the United States and Asia. His versatile work includes location, aerial, underwater, industrial, and topical photography.
